With 2020 in our rearview mirror and our plans in place for the year ahead, we’re committed to keeping you up to date on a number of exciting enhancements coming to TrialKit, our data collection and study management platform. As is the case every year at Crucial Data Solutions, our product roadmap is strongly influenced by client feedback and the impact of new/evolving trends in the industry. Keep reading for a sneak peek at the TrialKit updates we’re working on and expect to introduce in 2021.
Web User Interface (UI) Update
TrialKit’s web interface will continue to be optimized for improved usability and workflow as the needs of the industry evolve. TrialKit’s study participant access will be updated through our electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) module, the first component of TrialKit’s web platform to receive a fresh look and feel. TrialKit will remain the same platform users have come to know and love; however, 2021 will provide a more user-friendly experience for study participants and research professionals alike.
Electronic Trial Master File (eTMF) Capabilities
As a result of great user feedback, our development team is working to broaden the eTMF functionality in TrialKit for release in 2021. Keep an eye out for future announcements on the platform’s soon-to-come integrated file management capabilities. Users will enjoy an enhanced file viewer and file versioning functionality, as well as updates to a number of additional eTMF features and workflows that users have recently been asking for.
Site-based eLearning Module
TrialKit will soon see the addition of a self-guided eLearning wizard for new TrialKit users. This eLearning module will serve as a central repository for managing and maintaining an auditable training process for TrialKit users. When a new user logs in, the wizard will walk them through a step-by-step orientation of TrialKit based on their assigned role. Once completed, the wizard will verify that the user has been trained and certified on the TrialKit platform for their respective role, at which point the administrator is notified accordingly.
CDS’ development team will be expanding upon the work they’ve been doing since 2015 to grow TrialKit’s mHealth integration capabilities. To keep moving TrialKit forward as one of the most comprehensive technology platforms for supporting both traditional and decentralized clinical trial designs, CDS will further enhance TrialKit in 2021 and offer even more options to support the industry’s evolving needs for virtual trials and the collection of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE). We look forward to collaborating with our clients to help them integrate various wearable devices with TrialKit out-of-the-box and build upon the automated data collection methods that the platform offers today, including electrocardiograms (ECGs), resting and variable heart rates, sleep data, blood oxygen (SpO2) levels, and physical activities (such as gait analysis and range of movement) from devices such as Apple Watch and Google’s Fitbit.
Advancement of Machine Learning Technology for EHR to EDC Interoperability
CDS is now working with several clients to provide our proprietary solution, TrialKit AI, for transforming unstructured electronic health record (EHR) data into usable data in clinical research. By leveraging the latest in machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI), TrialKit AI parses both structured and unstructured data from any EHR system and maps those data into a structured format within TrialKit’s validated electronic data capture (EDC) database where it can be reviewed and analyzed similar to any other entered data. With TrialKit AI, CDS clients can now harness the value of the data available to them from any EHR system – a previously untapped resource – to expand their research and reduce the cost to acquire those data.
Medical Imaging and Adjudication Collaboration
Over the course of 2020, CDS assessed and engaged with a number of medical imaging vendors to offer our clients the ability to access DICOM and other types of images when logged in as a TrialKit user. In 2021, clients can request that CDS provide access to their medical images housed in other third party imaging platforms when they are logged in to TrialKit. CDS clients will be able to seamlessly access and manage their MRIs, X-rays, and CT scans from within TrialKit through an API connection.
